Born: Emmanuel Israel Ramirez-Patiño

June 4th, 1991

Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico

(1991-1999)

The first seven years of Emmanuel's life where spent in Mexico, where he had a happy childhood; it was slow-paced but engaging. During this time he constantly interacted with his grandparents and great-grandparents as well as his uncles and aunts from both sides of the family.  From them he inherited his love for old Mexican and Spanish folk songs as well as other traditional styles of Latin American music (e.g. Argentine Tangos to Brazilian Sambas and Mexican Polkas). At the age of 7 Emmanuel moved to Fort Worth, Texas where much of his family had recently moved.

In his early years his father played classical music for him. Composers like Chopin, Beethoven, Wagner, Mozart, and many of the masters were a staple at the time. Later on his mother introduced him to popular/contemporary styles of music such as 80’s pop and Latin Pop music while his father introduced him to big band music and early Jazz. Emmanuel's family often recalls stories of him singing along to his parent’s opera records and proclaiming that he would be the next great tenor!

In the ensuing years he began his journey of musicianship:

(2000-2009)

  • Began taking violin lessons. This set the foundation for his love of performance and his love for the expressive range of stringed instruments. He had a few recitals in ensemble settings, which are some of his fondest memories still.

  • Stopped violin lessons and began learning the piano.  At that age he became obsessed with Chopin and his etudes.

  • Concurrently began learning guitar.  After hearing Nirvana’s “Nevermind” which featured distorted guitars he was inspired to practice rock “chops”. During this period his favorite musicians and inspirations were: Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Johnny Marr (The Smiths).

  • At 12 he received his first “nice” guitar as a birthday gift (an Epiphone Les Paul). This moment made him take his practice more seriously and he began to ask for lessons.

  • At 14 Emmanuel began taking lessons with teacher Yupo Yang (2 years)

      - Yupo taught him theory and Jazz

      - Introduced him to “Kind of Blue”. Miles Davis became Emmanuel's new personal hero.

      - He  began to listen to Jazz guitarists such as Joe Pass and Barney Kessel. This                                                         is also the time when he began to listen to Coltrane.

(2009-2017)

  •  Emmanuel enrolled at The University of Texas at San Antonio (2009)

--During his time at UTSA he attended the concerts of people whom he admired like B.B. King, which further               cemented his passion for live music.

--He also began to perform in live events through school.

  •  Began Classical guitar lessons with Tom Vela (P.h.D. candidate in Classical Guitar).

  •  In December of 2013 Emmanuel graduated from UTSA and got accepted to Berklee

  •  Started at Berklee Spring 2015!

  •  Completed his third semester at Berklee and his third year as resident musician at Indian Rock Vineyards in Murphys California.
